Healthy Chocolate Chip Balls

A healthier version of chocolate chip cookies. These are not for special occasions, but for when you want an everyday treat without the guilt.

1 cup non-hydrogenated margarine
1/2 cup sugar (or Splenda or other artificial sweetener that tolerates heat, such as Maltitol)
1/4 cup Egg Beaters
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups whole wheat pastry flour
1/2 cup oat bran or wheat bran
1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup chocolate chips (sugar-free if you can get them, or try chopping up a sugar-free chocolate bar)

Preheat oven to 375F. Blend butter & sugar until fluffy. Add egg & vanilla, mix until just combined. Add flour, bran, and baking powder in intervals. Stir in chocolate chips. Shape into 1-1/2" balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from oven, let cool for one minute and then transfer to wire rack. Allow cookie sheet to cool thoroughly before placing uncooked dough on it.

I loved this cookie and so did my family members. They agreed that you could eat a couple of these cookies without that sugary-sweet taste. I used 3/4 cup butter and a little fructose with the sugar. Also, I used 2 large eggs instead of the beaters.
Yum!
